The Social Prescribing Show: Supporting the Social Prescribing Workforce

Christiana Melam, Chief Executive of the National Association of Link Workers (NALW), spoke at the Social Prescribing Show event hosted by the National Academy for Social Prescribing and the SouthBank Centre on 4th March 2022 to kick off the social prescribing week.
Her talk focused on the social prescribing workforce. She began her speech by asking the audience to give a round of applause to social prescribing link workers whose invaluable work is the driving force behind social prescribing and the show. She spoke passionately about the ground-breaking work of social prescribing link workers driving change, tackling inequalities, and social injustice. She urged the audience to advocate for social prescribing and that link workers are professionals and should receive adequate support and training; it was a collective responsibility to ensure this. She called for more diversity in the social prescribing workforce and a recruitment drive to reduce burnout.
