This week 18/05/20 – 24/05/20 is Mental Health Awareness week.
My colleagues within the Living Well Sefton Team have been producing videos of how they are keeping active and looking after their wellbeing during social distancing. Check them out on Twitter @LWSefton
It was nice to see our Deputy Programme Manager, Anne-Marie taking time out from her busy schedule to ride her bike along the seafront close to her home. It was also nice to see wider colleagues participating in lunchtime internet workouts!
This week I asked my colleagues if they had any good news stories or successes which they wanted to share with me which I could incorporate into my blog.
One colleague dropped a message to say she wanted to thank somebody within the team who had supported her through a difficult few weeks, without making a fuss or highlighting specific concern, rather just being there to listen and check-in that she was ok.
My colleague said this approach helped her feel understood as they both share similar character traits and have become friends due to a mutual understanding of each other’s savvy personalities! My colleague said offloading through a little rant which would turn into a laugh helped the situation and kept her on track to steer through.
I think this highlights the importance of acceptance and belonging within a team and how we should always look out for our colleagues as we would our caseload patients. If you notice a colleague is not their usual self and you recognise the signs from your own self, don’t be afraid to ask them if they are ok. You never know but this could be the check-up they need.
Also, if you, yourself feel unwell don’t be afraid to ask for help as there is always somebody there who wants to listen and will be happy for you to offload to them.
I also wanted to say a big thank you to our external colleagues over at The Life Rooms, who have been creating videos full of advice and support for keeping well during COVID19. These videos really compliment the support I provide to patients and they always receive glowing reviews, check them out on Twitter @LifeRooms_MC
