Collaborative Practice at the Mental Health Interface: Boundaries, Navigation and Pathways for Social Prescribing Link Workers Course

· 3rd June 2026

Context: SPLWs are part of a multidisciplinary approach to mental wellbeing, working alongside clinical teams when appropriate. The SPLW contribution is practical and social, with clear escalation routes for clinical risk. They work at the interface between clinical services and community support, reducing non-medical barriers that affect mental wellbeing, recovery and independence.

Course overview
This course is designed for Social Prescribing Link Workers (SPLWs) working at the interface between clinical mental health services and non-clinical/community support.

It focuses on:

  • clear boundaries (what is in scope, what is not, and when to escalate)
  • confident service navigation (who does what, and how people access support)
  • practical collaborative working with clinical mental health teams
  • safe signposting and patient information use
  • understanding how non-medical determinants (social and practical factors) can influence mental wellbeing, recovery and engagement with care

You will also build a working awareness of a range of mental health conditions to support safe conversations and appropriate escalation—without moving into diagnosis or clinical treatment.
