Christiana Melam Awarded MBE in the King’s New Year Honours 2024 for Services to Social Prescribing.

In a distinguished recognition of her unwavering commitment to social prescribing, Christiana Melam, Founder and Chief Executive of the National Association of Link Workers (NALW), has been awarded the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the King’s New Year Honours.

 

Expressing her gratitude for the prestigious accolade, Christiana Melam remarked,

“Embarking on 2024 with such an honour is incredibly exciting. I am truly humbled to be acknowledged in the New Year Honours. The founding principle of the National Association of Link Workers mirrors my conviction in the transformative effect of community organising, and social prescribing serves as a validation of this belief. Healthcare transformation can only flourish through enabling and empowering individuals and communities to take control of their lives and situations. I believe that our flourishing relies on others flourishing and it is possible to redefine your destiny”.

Melam continued, “I extend heartfelt appreciation to our dedicated members, team, partners, supporters, and people of goodwill for their support. Together, we possess the ability to script a new chapter of well-being, collaborating with social prescribing link workers to confront the rising tide of illnesses, mental health deterioration, and redefine the essence of good health and prosperity.”
